Science: Unit 1: Sun, Stars, and Moon- Trip to the Moon on Wednesday! We will finish the unit this week, and have an assessment on Friday, September 30. Students received a study guide last week that we completed in class. I sent an email with a copy of the answers to the study guide.
Thank you to the volunteers who helped during our first trip to the Science Lab on Friday! The students had a great time and participated in some fun activities.
We have a fun activity planned for Wednesday, September 28 that will last the entire day. We are planning a Second Grade "Trip to the Moon!" We have many fun activities that will all center around space, and we have a number of parent volunteers to help throughout the morning. Volunteers are sending in special snacks for the day. A Sign Up Genius was sent out last week. If you are volunteering, please dress in all black clothing, as you are part of the "Flight Crew." Please have your child dress in one color, and that will be their space suit for the day.
It's Parent/Teacher Conference Time already! A Sign Up Genius will be sent with available times in the next couple of weeks. Some times will be available throughout the week, and others will be available throughout the day on Tuesday, October 11.
You also should have received a Sign Up Genius for Mystery Reader. Each Monday we will have a Mystery Reader from 10:45-11:05 to read to the students. I ask a few things from you if you sign up to be a Mystery Reader:
1. Make sure you have registered as a volunteer with Fulton County Schools. This takes a few days to process, so please allow yourself enough time through the registration process before you volunteer for the first time.
2. Please send me 5 clues about yourself by the Monday morning of when you are going to be our Mystery Reader. I read the clues to the students and they try to guess the identity of our Mystery Reader. They LOVE this, and it makes them very excited as they try to guess who our special guest is.
3. Please arrive no later than 10:50. We leave for lunch at 11:15, so we don't have extra time if our Mystery Reader is running late.
4. Please bring 2-3 picture books with you. If you don't have picture books, you can email me ahead of time and I'll have some available for you. Or, you can stop by the Media Center on your way to our classroom and check out a few before you come and read.
Monday, October 10 - No School-Student/Teacher Holiday
Tuesday, October 11 - No School for Students; Parent/Teacher Conferences
Have a great week!
