SKILLS FOR THE WEEK OF OCT 24-28
Math: Unit 2 - Solving Multistep word problems, subtracting three-digit numbers with regrouping
Reading: Beginning, Middle, and End of Fiction Stories
Language Arts/Writing: Informational Writing
Social Studies: Cherokee Indians - Next week we will begin learning about the Cherokee Indians. We will discuss the Cherokee way of life and learn about Sequoyah.
Report Cards and Progress Skills Checklists (PSCs) were sent home in today’s Friday Folder. The report card and PSC are yours to keep. Please sign both places on the outside of the report card envelope and return the envelope to school on Monday.
Next week is Red Ribbon Week, and there is a special dress up day for each day of the week. Participation in the daily themes is, of course, voluntary. Here are the dress up days for next week:
Monday – Wear a hat – “Put a Lid on Drugs"
Tuesday – Favorite team t-shirt
Wednesday – “Too Bright for Drugs”
Thursday – Camo – “Be a Hero”
Friday – Wear Red
Iowa Testing is taking place through November 3. Visitors are permitted to enter the building after 11:00. If you are the Mystery Reader during the next two weeks, you probably won’t arrive in our classroom until a couple of minutes after 11:00, but we will still have plenty of time for you to read to the students.
Family Focus Night is Monday, October 31. No homework will be assigned.
Halloween – No costumes are allowed at school, but we will do some fun activities throughout the day!
Each Monday we will have a Mystery Reader from 10:50-11:10 to read to the students. I ask a few things from you if you sign up to be a Mystery Reader:
1. Make sure you have registered as a volunteer with Fulton County Schools. This takes a few days to process, so please allow yourself enough time through the registration process before you volunteer for the first time.
2. Please send me 5 clues about yourself by the Monday morning of when you are going to be our Mystery Reader. I read the clues to the students and they try to guess the identity of our Mystery Reader. They LOVE this, and it makes them very excited as they try to guess who our special guest is.
3. Please arrive no later than 11:00. We leave for lunch at 11:15, so we don't have extra time if our Mystery Reader is running late.
4. Please bring 2-3 picture books with you. If you don't have picture books, you can email me ahead of time and I'll have some available for you. Or, you can stop by the Media Center on your way to our classroom and check out a few before you come and read.
Monday, October 24 - Return Report Card Envelopes to School: Wear a Hat to School
Tuesday, October 25 - Wear your favorite team t-shirt to school
Wednesday, October 26 - Wear neon colors to school
Thursday, October 27 - Wear camouflage to school
Friday, October 28 - Wear red to school
Monday, October 31 - Family Focus Night; Halloween
Tuesday, November 8 - No School; Teacher Work day
Have a great week!
